Vere, Angou Named OCAA Stars of the Week

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Mar. 17:

 

Laura Vere
School: Fanshawe
Program: Tourism - Travel Studies
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Stratford, Ont.
Vere ended her post-secondary career on the national stage in Sainte-Foy, Que. The fifth-year captain came within a rebound of a double-double in Fanshawe's narrow 69-66 loss to Keyano in the national quarter-finals on Mar. 14. Vere scored 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while adding four assists and two steals. Overall, Vere averaged 9.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Falcons at nationals. She showed her determination on the defensive end of the floor as well, drawing seven charges throughout the competition.

Program: Police Foundations
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: London, Ont.
Angou, the OCAA Player of the Year and All-Canadian, was named a Championship Second-Team All-Star at nationals. The fourth-year guard averaged 20 points in three games as Fanshawe finished tied for fifth place in the competition. She was named Player of the Game twice. Angou totalled 60 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, six assists and one block in Sainte-Foy, Que. She also contributed nine three-pointers and was 11-of-12 from the free throw line. It marked the best placing of a Fanshawe women's basketball team in 24 years after finishing fourth in 1995.
