Falcons Fall at Home to Mohawk
(London, Ontario) – The Falcons Men's Basketball team (5-12) lost to the visiting Mohawk Mountaineers (10-7) Wednesday night in their final home game of the season.
Fanshawe got off to a blistering hot start, beginning the game on a 13-5 run. Da'Marion Ennis (Windsor, ON) was a key factor in the first quarter as he dropped in half of his team-high 14 points in the quarter to lead the offence. Ennis, the third leading rebounder in the OCAA (per game) also picked up 10 rebounds in this one to give him his ninth double-double of the season. Despite the hot start for Fanshawe, Mohawk was able to battle back and tie the game at 15 a piece going into the second.
The second quarter started off with 10-4 Mohawk run allowing them to claim and extend the lead. Steven Okoroafor (Burlington, ON) who was celebrating his Senior night drilled a big three in the quarter to keep the game tight but Mohawk continued to control the game and went into halftime with a 37-30 lead.
The third quarter was all Mohawk as they outscored the Birds 28-11 in the frame. The Mountaineers offensive explosion found the Falcons down 14 points heading into the final quarter.
The Falcons put forward their best effort in the fourth quarter in a desperate try for a comeback but were ultimately unable to climb out of the deficit built in the third. Nikola Cebic (Mississauga, ON) played well in the quarter as he picked up seven of his nine points late.
The Birds will travel to take on Sheridan (11-6) on the road in their final game of the regular season on Saturday February 8th at 3:00 p.m. A win would be crucial for the Falcons to help them secure a playoff birth.
