Falcons Varsity Weekly Recap
(London, ON) - The Fanshawe Falcons baseball, softball and men's and women's soccer teams all opened up their season's on Saturday, September 6th, with each team experiencing a mixed bag of success.
Women's Softball Sweeps Mohawk:
The Falcons softball team (2-0) opened up their season at home with a double-header against Mohawk College (0-2).
Game one saw massive contributions from two first year Falcons, Kayden Jeffrey (Oshawa, ON) and Jasmine Seager (Burlington, ON) who combined for six hits and seven of the Falcons eight runs-batted-in (RBI). The 2024-25 Fanshawe softball Rookie of the Year, Kyle Dalrymple (Exeter, ON) went a full seven innings on the mound, striking out seven batters on her way to her first win of the year. A three run sixth inning was the boost the Falcons needed to close out the visiting Mountaineers in game one, 8-6.
Game two was a back and forth affair that saw five lead changes between the two teams. The Falcons managed to put up four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a short-lived 6-3 lead into the sixth where Mohawk responded with four runs to reclaim the lead, 7-6. After evening it up on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth and a shutdown seventh inning by Kyle Dalrymple, Fanshawe had a walk-off opportunity in the bottom of the inning. Clutch hitting saw the Falcons load the bases for Jasmine Seager, who ripped a ball into the outfield to bring home the game-winning run.
Seager, finished the double-header with six hits, five RBIs, and walk-off winner. Her play earned her Fanshawe Falcons Athlete of the Week honours.
The Falcons next matchup will be on the road against Lambton (0-4) on Wednesday, September 10th at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Women's Soccer Starts their Season on the Right Foot:
The Falcons women's soccer team (1-0) opened their season at hope against Conestoga College (0-1).
A tightly contested matchup, the Falcons displayed a lot of discipline and grit against the visiting Condors. Ava Rogers (London, ON) the newest Falcons goalkeeper suited up and was strong in her Fanshawe debut. She stopped all nine of the shots she faced to claim the clean sheet in what was an impressive first game. The first half finished 0-0 but the Falcons came out running for the second. Lily Ryder (St. Thomas, ON) a transfer from Niagara College made the play of the day by undressing three Condor defenders before sending in a low cross to Miriam Wambulwa (Niagara Falls, ON) who finished off the play by putting the ball in the back of the net in the 52nd minute. The Falcons shut it down from there, holding on for a 1-0 win to start their season.
The Falcons next match will be on the road against Humber (1-0-1) on Wednesday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m.
Men's Baseball Strong Start on the Road:
The Falcons baseball team (2-1) opened their season on the road with matchups against Durham (0-3) and Sheridan (1-3) on Saturday and Sunday. Fanshawe ended their weekend road trip with a 2-1 record and 33 RBI's.
In just a single game against Durham, the Falcons bats were on fire. Fanshawe put up six runs in the second and five in the fifth on route to a 14-8 thumping of the Lords. Falcons returners Trevor Loebach (St. Thomas, ON), Aiden Choo (Whitby, ON) and Marcus Normandin (Mississauga, ON) all contributed with three RBI's, three RBI's and four RBI's respectively.
In game one against Sheridan on Sunday, September 7th, the Falcons bats were silenced in a 4-3 loss. Fanshawe pitcher Alex Miller (Hamilton, ON) had a solid outing, pitching five innings, only allowing four hits and three runs.
In game two, the Falcons bats woke up by putting up a 16-piece, winning the game 16-8. New Falcons, Brock Harris (Waterloo, ON) and Holden Heipel (Clinton, ON) combined for seven RBI's in the winning effort but no Falcon did more damage than Marcus Normandin who picked up a homerun and five RBI's.
Normandin, finished his weekend by slashing five hits (0.600 AVG.) four extra-base hits and eight RBI's to earn himself Fanshawe Falcons Athlete of the Week honours.
The Falcons next games will be at home at Labatt Memorial Park for Fanshawe's annual Falcons Fest. The Birds will be playing Durham at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

Men's Soccer Falls Short to Conestoga:
The Falcons men's soccer team (0-1) kicked-off their season at home against Conestoga (1-0).
A defensive first half saw both teams draw even after 45 minutes of play. The second half saw Conestoga step on the gas by scoring three unanswered goals before the 65th minute. The Falcons were unable to respond and fell short, losing 3-0 in their home opener. The men's team will look to bounce back against a formidable Humber team (2-0) in Vaughan on Wednesday, September 10th at 5:30 p.m.
