Fanshawe Celebrates 2024-25 Varsity Season with Athletics Awards Ceremony

(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe Athletics concluded the 2024-2025 varsity season with the Falcons' year-end awards ceremony this evening. Luke Evans from the Men's Golf team and Parker Doig from the Women's Curling team were honoured as Fanshawe's Athletes of the Year.

Athlete of the Year: Luke Evans

Luke Evans (Georgetown, ON) made history this season as the first-ever individual national champion in the 47-year history of the Fanshawe Falcons golf program. His journey to national glory began at the OCAA Provincial Championships, where he carded a score of 229 (+13) to place fifth. Evans was instrumental in the Men's team's silver medal success at the OCAA event and earned OCAA All-Ontario Team honours. At the CCAA National Championships, he delivered a record-breaking performance, finishing with a score of 288 (+4), the best four-day total by a Fanshawe golfer at a CCAA event. Alongside his individual title, he was named a CCAA All-Canadian and played a key role in securing the Men's team national silver medal. Now in his fourth year, Evans' journey from a promising rookie to a leader and champion is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and commitment to his coaches, teammates, and Fanshawe College.

Athlete of the Year: Parker Doig

Parker Doig (Egmondville, ON), a newcomer to Fanshawe College and the Women's Curling team wasted no time making an impact this season. After transferring from Humber College, she embraced a greater leadership role, trading in her blue for red and guiding the Falcons to success. As skip, Doig led the Women's team to its fifth-ever OCAA Championship and first since 2018-19. In a dramatic championship match, she and her Fanshawe teammates faced off against her former team, the Humber Hawks, in a rematch of last season's final. The Falcons staged a thrilling comeback in the seventh end to claim the title, securing a moment of sweet revenge. For Doig, who previously played as a fifth for Humber, stepping into an elevated role with Fanshawe proved to be a defining moment, as she was named OCAA Women's Curling Most Valuable Player.
