Falcons Men’s Cross Country Team Crowned National Champions

(London, Ontario) – At the CCAA National Championship race on Saturday afternoon in Calgary, Alberta, the Fanshawe Men's Cross Country team were crowned the CCAA National Champions for the second consecutive season and for the fifth time in their history.

 

In the Men's eight kilometer race, Fanshawe won the National gold medal with a team score of 35. Ten points ahead of second place Vulkins de Victoriaville. Seth Marcaccio (London, ON) led the Falcons with a third place individual finish in a time of 25:22 to capture the CCAA Men's Individual bronze medal. Teammate Sandy Freeland (Kitchener, ON) was not far behind, finishing fourth overall with a time of 25:32. Falcons' Ethan Roche (London, ON) finished 12th, Luke Groulx (Blind River, ON) finished 23rd, John Berthelot (Blind River, ON) finished 27th and Kyle Luyt (London, ON) finished 30th. Marcaccio and Freeland were named All-Canadians for their excellent performances.

 

In the six kilometer Women's race, the Falcons finished fifth overall as a team. The top finisher was Katie Rice (Ingersoll, ON) with a time of 25:46, good for 33rd overall. Both of Fanshawe's cross country teams are led by Head Coach Ashley VanderVecht.
