Falcons Women’s Soccer Defeated by Mohawk in Season Opener

(London, Ontario) –The Fanshawe Women's Soccer team came up short against the Mohawk Mountaineers at the Fanshawe Soccer Field on Saturday, September 9. The Falcons lost 3-0 after 90 minutes of regulation in the season opener.

 

Mohawk got on the board early with a goal in the ninth minute from midfielder, Isabelle Udoyc (Grimsby, ON). Shortly after, Emily Schwarz (Stoney Creek, ON) extended Mohawk's lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the season, assisted by second year Alyssa Glasbergen (Burlington, ON). After the first 45 minutes, the Falcons remained scoreless.

 

In the second half, the battle between the Falcons and Mountaineers continued. Fanshawe's first year striker Maya Ryglewicz (Cobourg, ON) got the ball past the Mohawk defenders and had a couple chances at goal. Unfortunately, the visitor's keeper, Mia Hadley (Milton, ON) shutout the Birds, making two big saves. Janelle Lammers (Frankford, ON) set up her teammate Glasbergen to score the final goal of the game in the eighty-fifth minute. The Mountaineers won 3-0 against the Falcons in the season opener.

 

The Falcons look to secure their first win of the season on Wednesday, September 13 at 4:30 p.m. against the Humber Hawks. Fanshawe will face the 2022-23 OCAA Women's Soccer Champions at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
