Fanshawe Women’s Soccer Finishes Fourth Nationally

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Soccer team dropped the CCAA bronze medal match on Saturday afternoon in Toronto. The OCAA champion Falcons fell to the ACAC champion SAIT Trojans to finish fourth in the country for the second consecutive season.

Fanshawe wasted no time getting on the board, with Jylia Boyd (London, ON) scoring in the 2nd minute on a pass from Lauryn Soares (Strathroy, ON). The Trojans responded in the 29th minute to tie the game 1-1. In the second half, SAIT came out strong and took a 2-1 lead on a corner kick goal two minutes into the frame. The Trojans then extended their advantage to 3-1 in the 61st minute. The Falcons attempted to press to get back in the game and gained some momentum after a huge breakaway save from goalkeeper Breanne Carreiro (Strathroy, ON). Unfortunately, Fanshawe could not break through the SAIT back line and lost by a final score of 3-1. First-year midfielder Madilyn Michienzi (London, ON) was named the Falcons' Player of the Match and Aysia King (London, ON) was named a CCAA Tournament All-Star for her excellent play throughout the week.
