Fanshawe Advances to CCAA Women’s Soccer Bronze Semi-Final

(London, Ontario) – In their CCAA bronze quarterfinal match today in Toronto, the Fanshawe Women's Soccer team won 2-0 over the ACAA champion Holland Hurricanes from PEI.

The Falcons struck first, recording a goal in the 41st minute. First-year student-athlete Jylia Boyd (London, ON) sent teammate Aysia King (London, ON) on a run and she placed a left footed shot in the bottom right corner of the Holland net. The Birds held a 1-0 advantage at half time. The Hurricanes attempted to pressure the Falcons in the second frame, but Fanshawe's defense and goalkeeping remained strong throughout. The red and white would put the game away in the 86th minute, when a Breanne Carreiro (Strathroy, ON) drop kick found Kayla McQueen (London, ON), who used her speed to beat the Holland defender and score to make it 2-0. Carreiro was named the team's Player of the Match.

The Falcons will now face the host Humber Hawks in a bronze semi-final match on Friday, November 12 at 12:30 p.m. In the last battle of the birds, the Falcons defeated the Hawks 1-0 in an OCAA semi-final on October 29.  Viewers can watch the game live on the CCAA website:
