Falcons Victorious Against the Vipers

(London, Ontario) – The No. 2 Nationally ranked Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team (7-2) swept the Vipers (1-10) at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre on Sunday afternoon.

To open the match, setter Matt Stechnicki (Guelph, ON) set Daniel Ridings (St. Catharines, ON) who recorded a kill and the first point of the match. Ridings followed with an ace to put the Birds up 2-0. Kills by Zack Admans (St. Thomas, ON), Jayden Crowther (London, ON), and Ridings gave the Falcons a strong lead. The Birds maintained control of the game and took set one 25-16.

Another dominant showcasing was displayed by the Birds in set two. Stechnicki began with an ace and kills from Ridings, Admans, and Tanner Patterson (Baden, ON) gave the Falcons a large lead. A Tom Cullingworth (Ottawa, ON) kill increased Fanshawe's score to 15 over the visitors eight. Two massive spikes by Kaden Eybergen (Stratford, ON) pushed the Falcons to an impressive 25-12 victory.

Jacob Johnson (London, ON) was the first Falcons player to get on the board in the final set of the match. Johnson followed up with a huge block on a Boreal hitter to secure a 5-3 lead. Evan Kirkpatrick (Gananoque, ON) also got in on the Birds' success with a great block and recorded two kills later in the set. Fanshawe took set three 25-12. Ridings played phenomenal for the Falcons, scoring 18 points, and cashing in on 14 out of 20 attack attempts.

Looking to win back-to-back matches, the Falcons will battle the Sheridan Bruins (1-8) at the Trafalgar Campus Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 29.
