Falcons Sweep Twin Bill Against Conestoga

(London, Ontario) – On Tuesday evening at Stronach Park, the Fanshawe Softball team (5-3) defeated the Conestoga Condors (2-8) by scores of 9-1 and 7-4.

 

In a battle of the birds, Condors got on the board first in the opening inning. From there on, it was all Fanshawe, scoring nine unanswered runs to win game one of the doubleheader 9-1. Marandee Hunter (Chatham, ON), Paige Askew (London, ON), Kennedi Roth (Stratford, ON) and Jana Beiman (Moorefield, ON) all had two hits, while Hunter had a game-high four RBIs. OCAA Women's Softball Athlete of the Week, Morgan Lowry (Middlesex-Centre) was outstanding from the mound once again, recording 14 strikeouts in the win.

 

In game two, Fanshawe got off to a 4-1 lead with three RBIs from Falcon first year Jenna Mclean (Watford, ON). Conestoga did not let up however, and tied the game at four in the top of the fourth inning. The home team responded with RBIs from Beiman and Sara Reading (Listowel, ON) to secure the sweep for the Falcons by a final score of 7-4. Lowry improved her pitching record to 4-0 on the season, and currently leads the OCAA in strikeouts with 47. Third year outfielder, Roth, is leading the league in both batting average (.625) and slugging percentage (1.125).

 

Next up, the Falcons will travel to Durham (4-2) to face the Lords on Friday, October 1.
