Fanshawe Badminton Team Captures Three OCAA Medals

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Badminton team claimed three OCAA medals on Saturday at the OCAA Badminton Provincial Championship in Scarborough, hosted by George Brown College.

 

Fanshawe's Men's Doubles team of San Dang (London, ON) and Arpitraj Sinha (Markham, ON) finished second after round robin play, setting them up for a semi-final match against third-seeded Humber. Dang and Sinha defeated the Hawks 2-1 (21-23, 21-10, 21-10) to advance to the championship match. In the gold medal game, Dang and Sinha fell 21-11 and 21-16 to number one ranked Seneca to claim the OCAA silver medal.

 

Women's Doubles pair Kaitlyn Murray (Thessalon, ON) and Mook Prasarn (Thailand), who finished third in round robin, then fell to second place Seneca in the semi-final match 2-0 (21-15, 21-14). In the bronze medal match, Murray and Prasarn defeated George Brown 21-7 and 21-8 to capture third place in the province.

 

Women's Singles competitors Zoya Virk (India) and Morgan Grant (Thamesville, ON), who were third and fourth respectively in round robin play, both fell in their semi-final contests and faced each other in the bronze medal match. Virk would pull off the bronze medal win over her teammate 2-0 (21-6, 21-14). Mixed Doubles team members Mohemed Ashik (India) and Lalaine Siy (Toronto, ON) finished in fourth place in the tournament.

 

Dang and Sinha will represent the Falcons at the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Badminton National Championships in Edmonton from March 17-19.
