Fanshawe Celebrates Sports Achievements with 2023-24 Athletic Awards

(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe Athletics concluded the 2023-24 varsity season with the Falcons year end banquet this evening. It was announced that Arpitraj Sinha from the Badminton team and Alison Cotton from the Women's Basketball team have been named Fanshawe's Athletes of the Year.

 

Athlete of the Year:  Arpitraj Sinha

Arpitraj Sinha (Markham, ON) was the star of the Fanshawe Badminton team this season, earning a CCAA national silver medal and an OCAA provincial gold medal in men's doubles. Sinha and his men's doubles partner Roshan Jacob finished second at the OCAA West Regional event and Sinha was named an OCAA West Regional All-Star. At the OCAA Provincial Championship, Sinha and his partner overcame their previous loss against the Humber Hawks at West Regionals to capture OCAA Gold. Sinha and Jacob then competed in the CCAA National Championship in, where they claimed silver after an intense championship three-set match versus SAIT. Sinha overcame both physical and mental challenges throughout his Falcons tenure and is a well-decorated badminton athlete. During his 2021-2022 rookie campaign, Sinha was awarded an OCAA silver medal and CCAA bronze medal with men's doubles partner San Dang. In 2022-23, Sinha competed in the men's singles division and secured a bronze medal at the OCAA Championships.

 

Athlete of the Year:  Alison Cotton

Alison Cotton (London, ON) led the Fanshawe Women's Basketball team this season as a three-year captain and three-time OCAA All-Star. She recorded a double-double in 13 of 18 games during the 2023-24 campaign and averaged 14.4 points and an OCAA league-leading 11.1 rebounds during regular season play. The fifth-year's relentless work ethic was displayed on both ends of the floor, as she set Fanshawe Women's Basketball records for most steals in a game (11), most rebounds in a game (19), and most rebounds in a season (177). Along with being a tenacious defender and the team's leading scorer the past two seasons, Cotton is also third in Fanshawe Women's Basketball all-time rebounding (484). Her versatility and commitment to the Fanshawe College program since 2018 have allowed her to find much success during her career both on the court and in the classroom. Cotton has also earned All-Academic Honours, maintaining over a 4.0 GPA throughout her Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership degree program.

Mike Lindsay Leadership Award – TK Sinha

World Transplant Games Legacy Badminton Award – Arpitraj Sinha
