Fanshawe Men’s Cross Country Team Claims National Silver Medal

(London, Ontario) – At the CCAA National Championship race on Saturday afternoon in Medicine Hat, Alberta, the Fanshawe Men's Cross Country team captured the national silver medal.

 

The Fanshawe Men's team finished in 2nd place in their eight kilometer race with a score of 49, just four points behind champion SAIT. The Falcons' top men's runner was Sandy Freeland (Kitchener, ON), who finished 8th overall, running an impressive 26:26. Fanshawe's Samuel Cumming (Barrie, ON) was close behind with a 9th place finish and a time of 26:32. Ethan Roche (London, ON) and Ty Breedon (Barrie, ON) crossed the line in 13th and 19th place respectively. Freeland was named a CCAA All-Canadian.

 

In the Women's six kilometer race, Fanshawe finished 9th in the nation, with a team score of 145. Katie Rice (Ingersoll, ON) led the Falcons with an excellent race time of 24:14, good for 10th place overall. Teammates Samantha Reidy (London, ON), Brooke Jez (Teeswater, ON) and Katie Funk (Bancroft, ON) finished 40th, 46th and 49th respectively.
