Fanshawe Women’s Cross Country Team Golden at Provincials
Katie Rice wins individual OCAA gold, Men's Team captures silver

 

(London, Ontario) – In Thunder Bay on Saturday, the Fanshawe Falcons Cross Country teams competed in the OCAA Provincial Championships hosted by Confederation College.

 

The Fanshawe Women's team captured OCAA gold in the six kilometer race, with a score of 29, 20 points ahead of St. Clair. Katie Rice (Ingersoll, ON) led the Falcons and captured individual gold with an excellent race time of 24:56. Samantha Reidy (London, ON) also had an impressive finish with a time of 26:59, good for 7th place overall. Teammates Katie Funk (Bancroft, ON) and Brooke Jez (Teeswater, ON) finished 14th and 15th respectively. Rice and Reidy were both named to the Women's All-Ontario First Team and Funk to the Second Team.

 

The Fanshawe Men's team claimed the OCAA silver medal in their eight kilometer race with a score of 24, just three points behind St. Clair. The Falcons' top men's runner was Sandy Freeland (Kitchener, ON), who finished in 4th overall, running 26:57. Fanshawe's Samuel Cumming (Barrie, ON) was close behind with a 5th place finish. Ty Breedon (Barrie, ON) and Ethan Roche (London, ON) crossed the line in 7th and 8th place respectively. Freeland, Cumming and Breedon were all named to the Men's All-Ontario First Team. Roche was named to the All-Ontario Second Team.

 

On November 12, both Fanshawe teams will compete in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country National Championships hosted by Medicine Hat College in Alberta.
