Fanshawe Cross Country Coach Competes in World Championships

(London, Ontario) – Fanshawe Falcons alumni and Cross Country assistant coach, John Mason, competed in the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships held in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, October 5.

 

Mason competed in the marathon and came in 36th place with an incredible time of 2:19:21. The race proved to be gruelling with temperatures hovering around 29 degrees celsius and humidity at about 48 percent, with a number of competitors unable to finish the race. He was the top Canadian runner in the marathon.

 

Mason was inducted into the OCAA Hall of Fame in 2013. He was a member of the Fanshawe Men's Cross Country team for five seasons (2005-2010) and was a two-time Fanshawe College Male Athlete of the Year. Some of Mason's major individual Provincial and National accomplishments include being a two-time OCAA individual silver medalist and 2005 CCAA individual bronze medalist. Mason also helped the Falcons capture three OCAA men's team championships as well as five CCAA team medals. He is a five-time OCAA All-Ontario team member and a four-time CCAA All-Canadian.

 

Mason has been an Assistant Coach with the Cross Country squad for four years.
