Janelle Albert Named OCAA Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year

(London, Ontario) – At the 2019-20 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship Banquet in North Bay on Wednesday evening, three Fanshawe Falcons were recognized for their excellence on the court this season.

 

Janelle AlbertOCAA Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA Scoring Champion and OCAA West Division First Team All-Star:  

For the second consecutive season, Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON) was named the OCAA Player of the Year. The third-year outside hitter is a complete player for the Falcons, averaging a league-high 5.9 points per set and an impressive .382 kill percentage on offense. She also added a team-high 185 digs defensively. In 18 matches, she led the league in kills per set (4.89), had 37 service aces and 16 blocks. Albert set new Fanshawe Women's Volleyball records for most points in a season (322) and most kills in a season (269). She is the OCAA's nominee for the CCAA Player of the Year award that will be named on March 11 as part of the CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship Banquet in Quebec City.

 

Mattea DelearyOCAA West Division Second Team All-Star:  

Mattea Deleary (Ridgetown, ON) also had an excellent season for the Falcons, with a .380 kill percentage. The third-year middle blocker recorded 135 total points, 17 stuffed blocks, 48 digs and 27 service aces.  

 

Lauren VahrmeyerOCAA West Division All-Rookie Team: 

In her first year with the Falcons, outside hitter Lauren Vahrmeyer (Vineland, ON) made an immediate impact. She accumulated 78 kills, 21 aces and 85 digs on the season while adding depth to the talented Fanshawe squad.

 

The No. 6 CCAA ranked and West Division Champion Falcons (18-1) will play in an OCAA quarterfinal match at 1pm on Thursday, February 27 versus Mohawk (12-7, 5th in West).
