No. 4 Fanshawe Defeats Redeemer 3-0 in Bell Let’s Talk Match

(London, Ontario) – The No. 4 nationally ranked Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (12-0) stretched their OCAA winning streak to 35 games with a 3-0 win over Redeemer (6-7). The Wednesday evening home match was dedicated to mental health awareness, with the team and staff sporting Bell Let's Talk toques. Thunder sticks and informative materials were also handed out to fans.

Fanshawe started strong with a left side kill from Falcon first-year Lauren Vahrmeyer (Vineland, ON). A pair of strong hits from rookie middle Skylar Johnston (Hamilton, ON) extended the red and white's lead midway through the set. A well-placed tip from Mattea Deleary (Ridgetown, ON) concluded the first set with the Birds claiming the 25-14 win.

In the second set, Ashley Rafferty (Peace River, AB) set up Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) for a kill to jump out to an early lead. The Royals then made a comeback to tie the set at nine. Fanshawe regained the advantage with back-to-back kills from Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON). Despite Redeemer's best efforts, the Falcons took set two by a score of 25-16.

The Royals started out on a 7-2 run in the third frame. Fanshawe was able to regroup with points from Albert and Vahrmeyer. A huge kill from Stewart excited the home crowd and pushed the Birds lead to 21-18. The Falcons would finish the third set with a 25-21 advantage and win the match 3-0.

Albert was the top performer for Fanshawe with 18 points and has moved into seventh on the Fanshawe all-time points leaders list with 456 points in less than two seasons.
