Women’s Volleyball Defeat Cambrian in Three Straight Sets

Janelle

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (3-0) defeated the Cambrian Golden Shield (0-3) at home on Sunday afternoon 3-0.

The teams exchanged points to start the first set. Fanshawe took a two point advantage on back-to-back hits from Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON). The Falcons would stretch their lead with a kill from Mattea Deleary (Ridgetown, ON). A great dig from libero Lauren Reycraft (Kitchener, ON) kept the final rally alive for the red and white, and ultimately gave Fanshawe the 25-17 set one victory.

In the second set, the Falcons got points from Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) on a service ace and Albert on another kill. Great serving from Fanshawe setter Ashley Rafferty (Peace River, AB) resulted in more points for the Birds. The home team would prove to be too much for the Golden Shield to handle, and the Falcons would take set two 25-12.

Third-year middle blocker Kim Hardy (Melbourne, ON) got Fanshawe on the board in the third set with a strong hit. Cambrian would take an early 7-3 lead on the Falcons before Albert took over with a block and two kills to get Fanshawe back in the game. Kiana Lee (London, ON) gave the Falcons a slim 16-15 advantage on a service ace. Fanshawe would hold on to their lead from there and win the third set 25-18. Albert had a game-high 20 points in the match, leading the Falcons to a three set sweep.

Fanshawe's next game will be on the road against the Redeemer Royals (0-1) on Wednesday, October 30.
