(London, Ontario) – The #4 Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (24-1) defeated the #7 Cavaliers de Bois-de-Boulogne 3-1 in their CCAA bronze medal semi-final on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons will now play at 6pm tonight for the CCAA National bronze medal against the Alberta wildcard #6 Briercrest Clippers.

The Birds came out flying in the first set, going up big and winning the frame 25-11. The second set was a different story, as the Cavaliers stepped up their game and took a 19-11 lead. Fanshawe did not fold, instead the Falcons showed their perseverance by going on a 12-4 run and tied the game at 23 on a Meghan Morelli (London, ON) kill. The teams would exchange points but the red and white prevailed, coming back to win the strenuous set by a score of 30-28.

Bois-de-Boulogne regrouped to win the third frame 25-21 to force a fourth set. Set four went back and forth between the two talented teams. Late in the frame, fifth-year middle Danielle Grasman (Komoka, ON) came up huge for Fanshawe with a massive block to tie the set at 22. The Falcons continued to put on the pressure, as Grasman had a strong kill to put the Falcons up one. Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON) would end the match with a kill of her own, as Fanshawe won set four 26-24.

Grasman was named the player of the match with 22 points on 12 kills, 7 blocks and 3 service aces and had an impressive .522 kill percentage. The Falcons will look to make Fanshawe history as the first Women's Volleyball team to bring home a national medal.
