Janelle Albert Named OCAA Player of the Year

(London, Ontario) – At the 2018-19 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship Banquet in Sudbury this morning, four Fanshawe Falcons were recognized for their excellence on the court this season.

 

Janelle AlbertOCAA Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian and OCAA West Division First Team All-Star:  

For the first time in Fanshawe Women's Volleyball history, a Falcon was named the OCAA Player of the Year. Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON) was a complete player for the Falcons, averaging 4.6 points per set and an impressive .355 kill percentage on offense. She also added 155 digs defensively. In 18 matches, she led the league in service aces per set (1.02), had 170 kills, 54 service aces and 18 blocks. Albert led the Falcons to their first undefeated regular season in Fanshawe Volleyball history with a perfect record of 18-0. She is the OCAA's nominee for the CCAA Player of the Year award that will be named on March 6 as part of the CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship Banquet in Niagara Falls.

 

Danielle GrasmanOCAA West Division First Team All-Star:  

Danielle Grasman (Komoka, ON) led the Falcons with a .433 kill percentage and 41 blocks. The fifth-year middle brought experience and consistency to the top-ranked Fanshawe squad, recording 192 total points.  

 

Meghan MorelliOCAA West Division First Team All-Star

On the season, Meghan Morelli (London, ON) collected 144 kills, 122 digs, 26 service aces and 11 blocks. The team captain averaged 3.5 points per set, the second most on the Falcons.

 

Ashley RaffertyOCAA Rookie of the Year and OCAA West Division All-Rookie Team: 

In her first year with the Falcons, Ashley Rafferty (Peace River, AB) had an impressive season, stepping in immediately as the team's setter. She accumulated 419 assists, good for third in the OCAA and first in the West Division. Rafferty added 32 service aces, 17 kills and 51 digs.

 

The #4 CCAA ranked Falcons (19-0, 1st in West) will play in an OCAA quarterfinal match at 1pm today versus Mohawk (14-5, 4th in West).
