Fanshawe Women’s Soccer Season Comes to an End

(London, ON) – The Fanshawe Women's Soccer team (4-7, 6th West) was defeated 3-2 in a heartbreaking qualifying playoff match against the Mohawk Mountaineers (7-2-2, 3rd West) on Wednesday afternoon.

The Falcons were off to a great start as second-year Mackenzie Mota (St. Thomas, ON) scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. Less than ten minutes later, Mota found Fanshawe's Jylia Boyd. Boyd knocked the ball into the Mountaineer's net to increase the Birds' lead to 2-0. In the first half, keeper Paige Seabrook (Sarnia, ON) made three brilliant saves for the Falcons, but the visitors were able to sneak one past her in the 44th minute.

Going into the second half, Fanshawe had a 2-1 advantage, but Mohawk began to take control. The Mountaineers outshot Fanshawe 11-3 and scored two goals in the 59th and 89th minutes to take the game. Despite Fanshawe's effort, their 2023 season has come to a close.
