Fanshawe Women’s Soccer Wins CCAA National Bronze

(London, Ontario) –The Fanshawe Women's Soccer team claimed their first CCAA medal since 2009 on Saturday afternoon in Coquitlam, British Columbia. The Falcons won 2-1 over the host Douglas Royals to take home the National bronze medal.

 

Robyn Scott (London, ON) scored first for the Falcons, when a strike from long distance floated over the Douglas keeper in the 42nd minute. The score remained 1-0 at the half. The Royals responded in the 52nd minute on a goal off of a set piece. The teams would continue to battle in the second half but Fanshawe found the back of the net once again late in the game. Nicole Nielsen (London, ON) scored in the 84th minute, getting her head on a corner kick for what would be the winning goal as the Falcons held on for the 2-1 victory.

 

Scott, with a goal and outstanding defensive play, was named Fanshawe's player of the match. Nielsen and Jade Kovacevic (Acton, ON) were named CCAA Tournament All-Stars. Kovacevic led the National Tournament with seven goals. Fanshawe was 3-1 in the Tournament and finished the season with a 16-1 overall record.
