(London, Ontario) – On Friday afternoon in Coquitlam, British Columbia, the Fanshawe Women's Soccer team had a 4-2 comeback win over the PACWEST champion Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners in their CCAA bronze medal semi-final match.

The game was a tale of two halves, as both squads were kept scoreless in the opening half. After the break, the teams stepped up their offenses. The Mariners capitalized on an opportunity in the 46th minute to go up 1-0, then added a second goal shortly after in the 55th minute to extend their lead.

Down 2-0, Fanshawe's Kayla McQueen (London, ON) was taken down in the box in the 66th minute and the Falcons were awarded a penalty kick. CCAA Player of the Year, Jade Kovacevic (Acton, ON) made no mistake, placing her shot in the bottom left corner of the net to cut the Mariners lead in half. Shortly after, Fanshawe's Robyn Scott (London, ON) made a goal saving play by clearing the ball off of the goal line just before it entered the net to keep the score 2-1. The goal and the last second save shifted the momentum in the Falcons favour.

Kovacevic netted her second goal of the game in the 70th minute to tie the score. A marker from McQueen would give Fanshawe their first lead of the match, 3-2 in the 79th minute. The Falcons crushed VIU's hopes of any comeback when Chelsea Zavitz (St. Thomas, ON) found the back of the net in injury time to make the final score 4-2 to complete a wildly entertaining come-from-behind victory. McQueen was named Fanshawe's Player of the Match.

Fanshawe will now play in the CCAA bronze medal game versus the host Douglas Royals. The match will take place on Saturday, November 10 at 3:30pm EST (12:30pm PST). Viewers can watch the game live on the CCAA website: http://www.ccaa.ca/sports/wsoc/championship/webcast/index
