(London, Ontario) – In conjunction with the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Fanshawe Athletics is proud to announce that they will host the 2021 CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship.  The bid was unanimously approved by the CCAA as part of their mid-winter meetings held in Ottawa, Ontario.

Fanshawe will host the event March 17-20, 2021 at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. Eight Women's teams from across Canada will compete in the Championship and as hosts, the Fanshawe Falcons will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament. The Fanshawe Women's Basketball team has been an OCAA medalist in each of the past four seasons, including being the 2018-19 OCAA champions. The program earned its first ever CCAA No. 1 ranking last season and has consistently been ranked nationally, including a current ranking of No. 4 in the country. Over the last 12 seasons, the Falcons have qualified for 11 provincial championship events and won seven medals.

The Fanshawe Women's Basketball program holds the OCAA record for most OCAA gold medals (12), including five under Head Coach Bill Carriere. In his 13 years as Head Coach (1987-88-1993-94, 2013-14-Present), Carriere has won five OCAA titles, two silver and two bronze for a total of nine OCAA medals. He is also a four-time OCAA Coach of the Year and was named the CCAA Coach of the Year in 1994.
