Chuot Angou Named OCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Year

(London, Ontario) – At the 2018-19 OCAA Women's Basketball Championship Banquet in Kingston this evening, Chuot Angou (London, ON) was named the best player in the province and Head Coach Bill Carriere was named the top coach.

 

Chuot Angou – OCAA Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian and OCAA West Division First Team All-Star:  

Angou led the Falcons offensively this season, averaging a team-high 17.3 points per game. She also set a new Fanshawe Women's Basketball record for most points in a single season with 345. The fourth-year combo guard shot an impressive 48.5% from the field (3rd in OCAA) and led the West Division in both three point percentage (37.4%) and free throw percentage (81.8%). In addition to her offensive talent, Angou is also a tenacious on-ball defender, averaging 1.9 steals per game. She also added 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in only 22 minutes per game. Angou led the Falcons Women's Basketball program to their first ever #1 national ranking. She is the OCAA's nominee for the CCAA Player of the Year award that will be awarded on March 13 as part of the Women's Basketball National Championship banquet in Quebec City.

 

Bill Carriere – OCAA Coach of the Year:

In his 13th season as Fanshawe Women's Basketball's Head Coach, Carriere was named the OCAA Coach of the Year. He coached the Falcons to an impressive 19-1 league record and the OCAA West Division title. The Falcons were ranked #1 in Canada for the first time this season, the highest CCAA ranking in Fanshawe Women's Basketball history. Carriere's team set numerous Fanshawe Women's Basketball single-season team records including; wins (19), points scored (1627), field goal percentage (42.7), free throw percentage (70.3), made field goals (646), made 3-pointers (143), assists (425) and rebounds (1030). Carriere is now a five-time winner of the OCAA Coach of the Year award (1987-88, 1991-92, 1992-93, and 1993-94) and will be the OCAA's nominee for the CCAA Coach of the Year award that will be named on March 13 as part of the Women's Basketball National Championship banquet in Quebec City.

 

The #1 CCAA ranked Falcons (20-1, 1st in West) will play in an OCAA quarterfinal game at 6pm on Thursday, February 28 versus host St. Lawrence College (6-11, 5th in East).
