Since starting as Head Coach in 2013, Patrick Johnston has won the OCAA West Coach of the Year four times (2013-16 & 2022-23), OCAA Coach of the Year twice (2013-14 and 2015-16), CCAA Coach of the Year (2015-16) and the CCAA Coaching Excellence Award (2018-19). During this time, he has won three OCAA gold medals (2018-19, 2017-18 and 2015-16), one OCAA silver medal (2022-23), two OCAA bronze medals, a CCAA bronze medal (2015-16), a CCAA silver medal (2017-18) and Fanshawe's first ever CCAA Men's Volleyball Championship (2018-19). Johnston also led the Falcons Men’s Volleyball team to back-to-back perfect OCAA seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Aside from coaching the Falcons, Johnston is the Technical Director at the London Volleyball Club and Volleyball Canada Excellence program based out of Fanshawe College.

Prior to his time at Fanshawe, Johnston served as an Assistant Coach for the Women's Volleyball programs at Boston College (2010-2012) and Auburn University (2009). Johnston has also had tremendous success at the club level coaching youth boys and girls. His teams have medaled at the Volleyball Canada Division 1-Tier 1 National Championships five times since 2014 (Gold - 17U Boys in 2014, Silver - 17U Girls in 2016, Bronze - 18U Boys in 2019, 18U Boys in 2018, 18U Boys in 2015)

Previously, Johnston played for Team Canada in the 2004 NORCECA Championships in Mexico City and for Team Ontario in the 2005 Canada Games in Regina, SK.  He also played for Western University for five years as their Libero and was named an OUA All-Star and OUA Libero of the Year in 2011.
