Men’s Volleyball Team Advances to CCAA National Semi-Final

(London, Ontario) – On Wednesday afternoon in Toronto, the Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team swept the ACAC champion Briercrest Clippers in a CCAA quarterfinal match.

The Falcons went down early in the first set, but after shaking off the early jitters, Daniel Ridings (St. Catharine's, ON) had a huge hit for Fanshawe to get them back on track. The Birds stepped up and came back from their early deficit to take the opening frame 25-22. Fanshawe continued to roll in set two, with CCAA National Player of the Year Sebastian Lethbridge (London, ON) setting up teammates Jack Voght (Ottawa, ON) and Tanner Paterson (Baden, ON) for kills. Great defense from Elliott Leslie (London, ON) continued Fanshawe's success as they went on to win the second set 25-20. The Falcons used their momentum to go up on the Clippers again in the third frame. Jayden Crowther (London, ON) was solid at the net for the Birds, notching a pair of blocks to keep Fanshawe in the lead. Briercrest fought back and looked to steal the set, but Voght had a massive kill to put the red and white back on top. Paterson would end the 3-0 match on a block to give Fanshawe a 26-24 third set win.

Fanshawe fifth-year captain Lethbridge was named the player of the game for his performance, recording 33 assists and 11 digs. Ridings led the team offensively with 15 points for the Falcons. The Falcons will now face the PACWEST champion and No.1 nationally ranked Camosun Chargers in a CCAA semi-final match on Thursday, March 9 at 5:30 p.m. The CCAA National Championship is being hosted by Humber College and the tournament schedule, results and live stream can be found at: https://ccaa.ca/sports/mvball/championship/index.
