Falcons Men’s Volleyball Team Defeated by Top-Ranked Hawks

(London, Ontario) – The Falcons Men's Volleyball team (5-4) dropped their match against the undefeated No. 1 CCAA ranked Humber Hawks (9-0) at home on Sunday three sets to none.

The Falcons came out flying, with three kills from middle Evan West (London, ON) to make the score 10-3 for the home team. Humber was able to regroup and cut Fanshawe's lead to 16-13, but Tanner Paterson (Baden, ON) had a huge back row hit to keep the Falcons on top. The Hawks tied the set at 22, then Fanshawe responded with a huge hit from first-year Jack Voght (Ottawa, ON). Despite the red and white's best efforts, Humber capitalized down the stretch and pulled off a 25-23 set win.

In the second frame, West had a massive block to excite the home crowd. The teams traded points until the Hawks notched four unanswered to make the score 11-7. Fanshawe setter Elliott Leslie (London, ON) assisted hits from Voght and Matthew Stokes (Dover Centre, ON). Unfortunately, Humber used their strong attack to prove why they are the top team in the country and took set two 25-19.

Fanshawe came ready to play in the third set, responding to each Humber attack with one of their own. Daniel Ridings (St. Catharines) tied the set at 8-8 with a kill for the Falcons. The Hawks took a three point lead 19-16 mid-set but Fanshawe stayed within reach with a point from Paterson. Unfortunately, Humber would get the last few points and won set three 25-19 and the match 3-0. Paterson led the Falcons with eight points in the match.

The Falcons finished the regular season in fifth place in the OCAA West Division. They will now travel to face the Mohawk Mountaineers (6-3, 4th in West) on Thursday, March 10 at 8:00 p.m. in Hamilton.
