Falcons Men’s Volleyball Drops Match Against Mohawk

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon at home, the Falcons Men's Volleyball team (0-2) dropped their match against Mohawk (1-0) three sets to none.

It was all Evan West (London, ON) to start in the first set for the Falcons, with a kill, block and tip to get the home team rolling. Mohawk quickly regrouped, capitalizing on a few Fanshawe errors to take the lead. Despite the home team's best efforts, the Mountaineers went on to win the opening frame by a score of 25-19.

Rookie middle Jayden Crowther (London, ON) had a massive block for Fanshawe in the second set. The teams exchanged points on a couple of long rallies, kept alive by Bret Polfuss (Kitchener, ON). Mohawk stepped up their play and began to pull away midway through the set. Good serving from Elliott Leslie (London, ON) gave the Falcons a pair of points, but unfortunately the Mountaineers' attack proved too much for Fanshawe's defense. The Birds lost set two 25-14.

The red and white came out flying in the third set, taking an 8-3 lead on a kill from Tanner Paterson (Baden, ON). Mohawk then went on a run of their own to tie the game at 10-10. The set continued to go back and forth and remained tied midway through the frame, 16-16. The Mountaineers pulled slightly ahead, but a hit from Jack Voght (Ottawa, ON) kept the Falcons in the game. Unfortunately, Mohawk would get the last few points and took set three 25-22 and the game 3-0.

West led the Falcons with seven points in the match. The Falcons will finish up their three game home stand on Wednesday, February 16 versus the St. Clair Saints at 8:00 p.m. The match can be streamed at www.fanshawefalcons.ca/watchlive .
