Falcons Men’s Volleyball Falls to Sheridan in Season Opener

(London, Ontario) – On Thursday evening, the Falcons Men's Volleyball squad (0-1) took home court after a long 24 months. Fanshawe fell to the Sheridan Bruins (1-0) three sets to one.

Sheridan started strong to begin the match and took an early lead on the home team. Fanshawe's Daniel Ridings (St. Catharines, ON) and Tanner Paterson (Baden, ON) had consecutive kills for the Birds. Second-year Elliott Leslie (London, ON) then set up Evan West (London, ON) for an attack. Unfortunately, the Bruins did not let up and were able to take the first set 25-18.

Ridings continued his strong play in set two, with a hit assisted by Bret Polfuss (Kitchener, ON). But the Bruins were able to maintain a four-point lead midway through the set. Rookie Jack Voght (Ottawa, ON) had a huge kill to keep the Falcons within reach. Sheridan quickly responded and defeated Fanshawe 25-17 in the second frame.

The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in set three. A well-placed tip from Paterson gave the Birds a slim advantage. A service ace from Broderick Refflinghaus (London, ON) made the score 16-12. The teams would exchange points, and the Falcons were able to hold on for a 25-22 third set victory.

Sheridan regrouped in the fourth frame by scoring four straight points. Kills from Voght got points on the board for the Falcons, however they were unable to contain the Bruins attack. Sheridan went on to win set four 25-13 and the match 3-1.

Ridings led the Falcons with 13 points in the game. Next up, Fanshawe hosts the Mohawk Mountaineers on Saturday, February 12 at 3:00 p.m. The match can be streamed here: www.fanshawefalcons.ca/watchlive .
