OCAA Champs

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday night in the OCAA Men's Volleyball Provincial Final, the #1 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team (22-0, 1st in West) completed their second consecutive perfect OCAA season.

The Falcons defeated the #5 Humber Hawks (18-3, 2nd in West) in five thrilling sets (25-21, 18-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-11) to be crowned the 2018-19 OCAA Provincial Champions. This is the program's third OCAA title in the past four seasons. The match was hard fought throughout, but Fanshawe's bench depth proved key. With the score tied at 10 in the fifth and deciding set, the Falcons Sam Otten (Delaware, ON) served Fanshawe to a four point lead. The Falcons would go on to return Humber's serve for the gold medal clinching point. The OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship was hosted by Humber College in Etobicoke, ON.

In their quarterfinal match on Thursday, Fanshawe swept Conestoga (13-9, 5th in West). Zach Albert (Brampton, ON) was named player of the match, recording a game-high 14 points. On Friday in the semi-final, the Falcons beat Redeemer (15-7, 3rd in West) 3-0 and Mitch McFadden (St. Paul's, ON) was named the player of the match.

Sebastian Lethbridge (London, ON) was named Fanshawe's player of the game in the final. Albert was named the tournament's most valuable player after leading the team with 4.2 points per set over the three games. Teammates and local products Lethbridge and James Jackson were both named Tournament All-Stars. The Falcons will now represent Ontario at the CCAA National Championship from March 6-9 in Red Deer, Alberta, hosted by Red Deer College.
