Men’s Basketball Falls Short in Tight Game Against Conestoga

(London, Ontario) The Fanshawe Men's Basketball team (2-7) came up short against Conestoga (3-6) in a tight 69-65 loss on Saturday afternoon at home.

The Falcons started the game off on the wrong foot in the first quarter as they trailed by double digits early. An ice-cold start for Fanshawe and hot shooting by the Condors resulted in a 26-9 Conestoga lead after the first.

Fanshawe looked to close the gap in the second quarter led by a scoring spree by Brandon Bogart (St. Thomas, ON), who dropped 11 in the frame. A strong defensive effort by Fanshawe helped them cut the lead down to 40-29 heading into halftime.

The Falcons continued to lean on Bogart in the third quarter as he was able to keep up his scoring with eight points in the third. Fanshawe was pushing the pace in the second half in an effort to climb out of a double-digit deficit. However, timely three-point shooting at the end of the third quarter saw the Falcons down 60-46 going into the fourth.

Fanshawe came out desperate to close the gap in the fourth quarter and almost pulled off a comeback led by second-year guard Steven Okoroafor (Burlington, ON). Okoroafor exploded for eight points late in the fourth to put the pressure on Conestoga. Despite outscoring the Condors 19-9 in the quarter, the initial deficit ended up being too much for Fanshawe in the end as the Falcons fell 69-65.

The Falcons will play their final game before the winter break on Saturday November 30th at 3:00pm as they travel to Niagara to face the Knights (2-6). Fanshawe's Men's Basketball team's next home game will be against the Canadore Panthers on Sunday January 12th at 12:00pm.
