(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Softball team (12-12) dropped two games to the Humber Hawks (16-4) in their final games of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Falcons dropped game one 14-12 in ten innings and fell in game two 12-4.

Rookie pitcher Morgan Lowry (Middlesex-Centre, ON) had six straight strikeouts in game one to keep the Hawks scoreless in the opening two innings. Humber would then score two runs, including a homer, before Fanshawe got on the board. In the bottom of the fifth, Ali Bergman (Embro, ON) had a leadoff hit and advanced on a Paige Askew (London, ON) single. Laura Chappel (Staffa, ON) then had a hit to centre field to score Bergman. The Fanshawe runners advanced on a passed ball and then Askew scored on a groundout to tie the game. With two outs, Katie Berg (Stratford, ON) came up big at the plate, hitting an RBI single to score Chappel to give the home team a 3-2 lead. The top of the sixth inning would see the Hawks hit another homerun to tie the game at three. With Fanshawe runners on second and third, London native Emily Davis hit a 2-run RBI to go up 5-3 heading into the final inning. With two outs and down to their last strike, Humber came up with a base hit to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game once again. The Hawks held the Falcons scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Humber scored three runs in the top of the eighth but Fanshawe would come back with an RBI from Bergman. With two outs, Askew had a 2-RBI double to make the score 8-8 heading into the ninth inning. After the Hawks had another 3-run inning, the Falcons would climb back once again. Kim McCaul (Whitby, ON) scored the runner on second to cut the lead to 11-9. Berg would then single, followed by a Samantha Fuller (Ingersoll, ON) bunt to load the bases. Roth and Nichole Erb (Monkton, ON) then had back-to-back RBIs to even the score. Unfortunately Humber scored three runs in the tenth inning and the Falcons could not answer and fell by a final score of 14-12. Chappel (2-2) was the losing pitcher for the Falcons. Rachel Matheson-Green (2-0) picked up the win for Humber. Lowry recorded 11 strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched.

In game two, the Hawks came out strong, going up 8-0 after the second inning. In the third frame, Erb cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double to get Fanshawe on the board. Humber extended their lead to 11-3 after the top of the fifth frame. Roth hit a triple to left field and then Erb singled to score one for the Falcons. Unfortunately for the home team, the Hawks would take the game 12-4. Erb (3-6) took the loss on the mound and Meaghan Muir (7-2) recorded the victory.
