Erb Sets New Fanshawe Softball Strikeout Record in Win Over Mohawk

(London, Ontario) – On a rainy Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Falcons (8-8) swept the Mohawk Mountaineers (5-10) by scores of 13-3 and 11-3 at Alumni Field.

 

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Falcons defeated the Mountaineers in five innings, with Morgan Lowry (Middlesex-Centre) moving to 2-2 with the win on the mound. The losing pitcher for Mohawk was Kayla Mitchell (3-4). Both Ali Bergman (Embro, ON) and Nichole Erb (Monkton, ON) were stellar at the plate, going 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs each. Bergman and Erb are currently tied for third in the league in total RBIs with 16. Rookie Kalyn Hopkins (Bothwell, ON) recorded 3 RBIs of her own, going 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs.

 

In Fanshawe's 11-3 game two win, Erb (2-4) pitched a complete game. She set a new Fanshawe Softball record for most strikeouts in a single game with 12. This surpasses the previous record of 10 set by both Alanna Gilmour in 2015 and herself last season. Mohawk's Alyssa van der Werf (1-6) took the loss. At the plate, Stratford natives Kennedi Roth and Katie Berg both had 3 hits in 4 at-bats for the Falcons. Berg added 3 runs, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base. Roth added 2 runs, 2 stolen bases and 1 RBI.

 

The Falcons will look to carry their momentum into tomorrow's games against the Seneca Sting (0-16). Game times will be at 1pm and 3pm at Alumni Field.
