(London, Ontario) – The Women's and Men's Curling teams narrowly missed the national podium as the CCAA National Championships concluded in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Both teams finished in fourth place in Canada after dropping their respective bronze medal matches.

The tournament began on Friday, March 15 with both teams dropping their first round robin games. The Women lost to Humber 10-2 while the Men fell to Lakeland 5-3. The Falcons then bounced back and won their next games that evening. The Women defeated Douglas 12-3 and the Men won 6-4 over Humber.

On Saturday, the teams both finished the day with a 2-0 record. The Women picked up 8-5 and 8-3 wins over Holland and Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) respectively and the Men had a 10-3 win over Olds and an 8-3 win over the Sault.

Fanshawe continued their winning ways on Sunday as the Women won 10-9 over Augustana and 11-6 over Fleming. The Men downed Concordia 7-5 and Confederation 8-2.

The Falcons completed round robin play on Sunday, with the Men finishing in first place with a 6-1 record after a 5-3 win over NAIT. The Women dropped an 8-3 decision to MacEwan to finish in second after round robin play with a 5-2 record. In the national semi-final, the Fanshawe Women were unfortunately beaten by the Douglas Royals by a score of 11-2. The Men also dropped their CCAA semi-final game to Humber 7-5.

On Monday in the CCAA bronze medal game, the Fanshawe Women's team lost a heartbreaker to Augustana in an extra end, 5-4 to finish fourth overall. Falcons skip Kaitlyn Poirier (Sioux Lookout, ON) was named a CCAA Second Team All-Star and Head Coach Barry Westman was named the CCAA Women's Coach of the Year.

The Falcons Men's team also lost in their CCAA bronze medal game to NAIT by a score of 9-5. Skip Charlie Richard (Woodstock, ON) and second Eric Jones (Mildmay, ON) were named CCAA First and Second Team All-Stars respectively.
