Strong Sixth Inning Gives Falcons Fourth Straight Win

(London, Ontario) – On Sunday afternoon at Norm Aldridge Field, the Fanshawe Baseball squad (5-7) notched their fourth straight win, 5-1 against the George Brown Huskies (2-7).

 

The Huskies got on the board first in the second inning, scoring one to take an early lead. The Falcons struggled at the plate in the opening five innings, but third-year pitcher Kale Bilger (London, ON) kept Fanshawe in the game with excellent pitching, including seven strikeouts. In the bottom of the sixth frame, Catalin Morin (Amherstburg, ON) singled and then would score on a Braden Halford (Port Hope, ON) double to tie the game. Fanshawe would continue the offensive pressure with RBIs from Josh Arce (Oshawa, ON), Bradley Verhoeven (St. Thomas, ON) and Derek Smith (Wyoming, ON). The Falcons would hold off George Brown in the seventh inning to complete an undefeated weekend in London. Bilger (1-1) recorded the win for Fanshawe and David DeCassan (1-3) took the loss for George Brown. Verhoeven was 2 for 3 at the plate, with 1 RBI, 1 run and 1 stolen base.

 

The Falcons final home game will take place this Wednesday, October 2 against the Lambton Lions (0-7). The single game will begin at 6pm with $5 admission or free for Fanshawe students with their FANCard and children under 6.
