Falcons Fall to Hawks in Season Opening Doubleheader

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe Falcons Men's Baseball team (0-2) hosted the Humber Hawks (2-0) in their season opener. Fanshawe dropped both games by scores of 7-3 and 13-0.

 

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Hawks got on the board first, scoring two in the third inning. Fanshawe struggled at the plate, as Humber extended their lead to 4-0 after the fifth inning. The Hawks would add three more runs in the top of the seventh before the Falcons got on the board. Fanshawe Rookie Darren Dwyer (West Montrose, ON) had a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh to score Matt Bowden (London, ON) and Josh Hare (St. Thomas, ON). Kevin Bowden (London, ON) then added a single to score Dwyer. Despite the Falcons late attempt at a comeback, the Hawks would go on to win the game 7-3. Kale Bilger (London, ON) (0-1) took the loss, while Humber's Brendan Lyons (1-0) notched the victory.

 

The Hawks came out flying in game two. They started off scoring a run in the first inning, then added seven runs in the second inning to go up 8-0. Humber continued to be strong at the plate in the fourth inning, as they scored four more on a grand slam. Fanshawe could not recover and the Hawks went on to win 13-0 in five innings. The winning pitcher for Humber was Braden Taylor (1-0) and Tyler Wood (Niagara Falls, ON) (0-1) was the losing pitcher for the Falcons.

 

Fanshawe returns to action on Sunday, September 9, when they host the Durham Lords (1-1) at Labatt Park at 1pm and 3:30pm. General admission tickets are $5 per person, with free admission for kids under six and Fanshawe students with their FANcard. Tickets are cash only and will be available at the gates of Labatt Park on Falcons game days, one hour prior to game time.
