Ngu and Chua Capture OCAA Women’s Doubles Silver Medal

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Badminton team claimed two OCAA medals on Friday at the OCAA Badminton Provincial Championship hosted by Conestoga College.

 

Women's Doubles team members Helen Ngu (London, ON) and Maeyen Chua (Philippines) finished in third place after round robin play in Women's Doubles with a record of 3-2. They then defeated Georgian 21-15, 21-16 in the semi-final to punch their ticket to the final and claim a spot at the CCAA Nationals. In the final, Ngu and Chua fell to the top team of Chloe Rowe and Susanna Quach of Humber to claim the silver medal.

 

Fanshawe's Glyvette Etis (Philippines) also had a great showing for Fanshawe in the Women's Singles event.  She finished with a round robin record of 3-2, good for third place. She then dropped her semi-final to reigning Women's Singles champion Anh Hoang of George Brown 12-21, 13-21. In the third place match, Etis faced Georgian's Jessica Maher and won by scores of 21-15, 21-16 to claim OCAA Women's Singles bronze medal.

 

Ngu and Chua will represent the Falcons at the 2020 CCAA Badminton National Championships hosted by the University of Toronto Mississauga from March 4-7.
