(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Badminton team claimed two OCAA medals on Saturday at the OCAA Badminton Provincial Championship hosted by the University of Toronto Mississauga.

Women's Doubles team members Helen Ngu (London, ON) and Han Pham (Danang, Vietnam) finished in first place after round robin play in Women's Doubles with a record of 5-0, upsetting the top three seeds in the process. They then defeated Boréal 21-16, 21-14 to punch their ticket to the final and claim a spot at the CCAA Nationals. In the final, Ngu and Pham once again faced the top team of Chloe Rowe and Victoria Duong of Humber, however fell 17-21, 21-17, 13-21 and claimed the silver medal.

Rookie Melanie Wade (Calgary, AB) also had a great showing for Fanshawe in the Women's Singles event.  She finished with a round robin record of 2-3, good for fourth place. She then dropped her semi-final to reigning Women's Singles champion Anh Hoang of George Brown 21-18, 21-12. In the bronze medal match, Wade avenged a round robin lost to Georgian's Jessica Maher by winning 21-14, 22-20 to claim OCAA Women's singles bronze.

Hgu and Pham will represent the Falcons at the 2019 CCAA Badminton National Championships hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Truro, Nova Scotia from March 6-9. The last time a Fanshawe Badminton Women's Doubles team advanced to the CCAA National Championship was in 2006-07.
