Albert Siblings Named OCAA Stars of the Week

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Feb. 24:

 

Janelle Albert
School: Fanshawe
Program: Business Marketing
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Brampton, Ont.
It was a great week for the Albert siblings. First Janelle was named the OCAA Player of the Year, an All-Canadian, as well as an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star. Albert then led her Falcons teammates onto the court at Cambrian College, sweeping three straight matches to win Fanshawe's first OCAA championship since 1972, completing an undefeated regular and post-season. Albert was named Championship MVP for her efforts, with 20 points in a semi-final win over Humber and gold medal win over Niagara. Overall she recorded 42 kills at the championship.

Zach Albert
School: Fanshawe
Program: Business Marketing
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Brampton, Ont.
It was a great week for the Albert siblings. Zach was named Championship MVP at provincials for a second straight year as Fanshawe successfully defended its OCAA gold medal. Albert recorded double digits in points and kills in each of the three matches Fanshawe won at the championship, including 18 points on 16 kills and two service aces in a five-set win over Humber in the gold medal match. Overall he recorded 40 kills at the championship. Prior to the championship, Albert was named an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star.
