Albert Siblings Soaring with the Falcons

Alberts

(London, Ontario) – The sibling duo of Janelle and Zach Albert have been a highlight for the Fanshawe Volleyball programs this season. The outside hitters from Brampton grew up in a Volleyball family and are now leading their respective Falcons team to undefeated OCAA seasons.

According to the Albert siblings, they would not have had this much success in their volleyball careers without each other. Zach, being 21 and two years older than his sister, began playing club volleyball at the age of ten. Janelle started her competitive career a couple of years later, also at the age of ten. Growing up, the Alberts competed with each other and were always helping each other improve. They were both coached by their father and stated that, "volleyball is all we talk about at home."

Janelle is currently leading the #5 nationally ranked Women's squad in points per set (4.5), digs per set (2.7) and the OCAA in service aces per set (1.1). The Falcons are having their best regular season in Women's Volleyball history with a 13-0 record thus far. Older brother Zach is also leading his team in points per set (3.9) on the #1 CCAA ranked Men's Volleyball team, who are also 13-0 in OCAA league play and reigning CCAA National silver medalists.

When asked who the more talented sibling was, Zach quickly responded, "Janelle, she is better overall, especially defensively." Janelle then mentioned the skills where her older brother had her beat and the pair finally settled on that they both had their strengths.

Janelle and Zach are both in the Business Marketing program, a large part of why they chose Fanshawe, in addition to the strong Volleyball programs. "We enjoy spending time together," said Janelle, "we have a lot in common." Zach added, "It is also great to be able to always watch each other play, so we can continue to give each other pointers and improve."

The duo are extremely proud of each other's accomplishments and hope that they continue to soar for the remainder of the season with the Falcons. With the OCAA Men's and Women's Championships at different locations, the hardest decision may be left for their parents, Jackie and Mike, who will have to decide which child to watch. Whoever it is, they know they are going to see one of the OCAA's best.
