Fanshawe Men’s Cross Country Team Golden at Provincials

(London, Ontario) – In Windsor on Saturday, the Fanshawe Falcons Cross Country teams competed in the OCAA Provincial Championships hosted by St. Clair College.

 

In the Men's eight kilometer race, the No. 1 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Men's team won the Provincial gold medal with a score of 28, three points ahead of host St. Clair. Sandy Freeland (Kitchener, ON) led the Falcons with a second place finish in a time of 25:27 to capture the Men's Individual silver medal. Patrick Smith (Ottawa, ON) finished in fourth with a time of 25:44. Freeland and Smith were named to the Men's All-Ontario First Team. Fanshawe's Dion Killens (Grand Bend, ON), Luke Groulx (Blind River, ON), Brent Smalley (Uxbridge, ON) and Lucas Reid (London, ON) were named to the All-Ontario Second Team for finishing 10th, 12th, 13th and 14th respectively.

 

In the six kilometer Women's race, Jessica Martin (Port Elgin, ON) captured the OCAA Individual Women's silver medal with a time of 22:46.5. The No. 6 nationally ranked Fanshawe Women's team finished third overall to claim the bronze medal. Sammi-Jo Burch (Strathroy, ON) finished fourth individually with a time of 23:41. Martin and Burch were both named to the Women's All-Ontario First Team.

 

On November 10, Fanshawe will compete in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country National Championships hosted by Grande Prairie Regional College in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
