Falcons Women’s Volleyball Victorious over Boréal in Home Opener

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (2-0) defeated College Boréal (0-1) in their home opener Saturday evening in three straight sets.

 

The Falcons came out ready to play, going up early with two kills from reigning CCAA Player of the Year Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON). Fourth-year outside hitter Tarea Heshka (Erin, ON) was strong in the opening set, notching five points for the home team. Fanshawe won the first set 25-12.

 

Boréal opened the second set with three straight points. The Falcons were able to regroup to take an 8-7 lead with strong hitting from Heshka. A kill from rookie Lauren Vahrmeyer (Vineland, ON) extended Fanshawe's lead to 16-10. A huge block from Kiana Lee (London, ON) excited the home crowd, as the red and white would go on to win set two 25-12.

 

The Falcons kept the momentum going into the third set, taking an 8-1 advantage on points from Mattea Deleary (Ridgetown, ON) and Skylar Johnston (Hamilton, ON). The Birds continued to overpower Boréal with aces from Vahrmeyer and Deleary. Fanshawe took the match in three straight sets on a 25-9 third set victory. The top performer for the Falcons was Heshka, who had 17 points in the match.
