#5 Falcons Remain Undefeated With 3-0 Win Over Sheridan

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday night, the #5 nationally ranked Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team completed first semester league play with a 3-0 win over the Sheridan Bruins (4-4). In front of their home crowd, the Falcons moved to 9-0 on the season, the best start for a Fanshawe Women's Volleyball squad since 1986-87.

 

The Bruins took an early 3-1 lead in the first set, but the Falcons would quickly regroup and go on a 9-1 run to take a 10-4 lead. Fanshawe had kills from Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON) and Meghan Morelli (London, ON) to get rolling. A big block from Falcons middle Danielle Grasman (Komoka, ON) made the score 15-7 for the home team. A service ace from rookie Kiana Taylor (London, ON) extended the lead and Fanshawe would go on to win 25-17.

 

In set two, Mattea Deleary (Ridgetown, ON) had a kill that gave the Falcons an early advantage. Later in the set, Sheridan went on a 5-0 run to close the gap and make the score 16-15. Katie Stewart (Gananoque, ON) then had back-to-back points to get the Falcons back on track. Stewart recorded five points in the second set to lead Fanshawe to a 25-21 victory.

 

Danielle Grasman opened the scoring for the home team in set three with a strong kill. The Bruins stayed within reach with points of their own. The Falcons began to pull away in the middle of the second set and took the match 3-0 with a 25-17 third set win. Albert notched six service aces in the match, bringing her season total to 29, good for first place in the OCAA.

 

After the first half of the 2018-19 season, Fanshawe leads the league in kill percentage (.288), service aces (111) and points (462). The Falcons will look to continue their strong play in the new year when they play at Mohawk (5-3) on January 11, 2019.
