(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (2-0) defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (1-2) in their home opener Saturday afternoon. Both teams sported pink uniforms for breast cancer awareness.

The Falcons came out ready to play, going up early on the Mountaineers. Meghan Morelli (London, ON) opened the Falcons scoring with an intense left side kill. Ainsley Acton (Lucan, ON) followed that with a huge block that sparked the crowd. Fanshawe rookie Ashley Rafferty (Peace River, AB) had a hit of her own and the home team went on to win set one, 25-16.

The Falcons had the momentum going into the second set, as Fanshawe recruits Danielle Grasman (Komoka, ON) and Janelle Albert (Brampton, ON) had back-to-back kills. Grasman then had four service aces in a row to extend the lead for Fanshawe. The red and white won the second set by a score of 25-9.

In the third frame, the teams exchanged points as Mohawk stepped up their game. The Falcons got points from rookie Deszerae Chanthaboury (Kitchener, ON). Despite the Mountaineers best efforts, Fanshawe took the set 25-22 on a match-winning service ace by Albert. Grasman led the Falcons with 12 points.

Fanshawe's next match will be on the road against the St. Clair Saints (2-0) on Wednesday, October 31.
