Fanshawe Women’s Soccer Team Repeat as OCAA Champions

(London, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon in Ancaster at the OCAA Women's Soccer Provincial Championship, the No. 1 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Women's Soccer team (12-0-1, 1st in West) was crowned the OCAA Champions for the second consecutive year. The Falcons defeated the No. 4 Seneca Sting (12-1, 1st in East) 2-0.

 

In the championship final, OCAA League First Team All-Star Nicole Nielsen (London, ON) got the Falcons on the board in the 8th minute. Player of the Year Jade Kovacevic (Acton, ON) netted another goal in the 38th minute as Fanshawe took a 2-0 lead into the half. In the second frame, the Falcons would control the play and hold on to repeat as OCAA Champions. Chelsea Zavitz (St. Thomas, ON) was named the player of the match. Kovacevic was named the Tournament MVP for the second year in a row, scoring an incredible seven goals in three games. Teammates Angelika Mihalopulos (London, ON) and Breanne Carreiro (Strathroy, ON) picked up Tournament All-Star honours. The OCAA Women's Soccer Championship was Fanshawe's eighth overall and marks the first time since 1994 that the Women's Soccer program has won back-to-back titles.

 

The Falcons will compete at the CCAA National Championship from November 6-9 at Concordia University in Edmonton. In the 2018-19 season, Fanshawe was awarded the CCAA bronze medal.
