Fanshawe Women's Soccer Team Set to Defend Provincial Title

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Falcons Soccer team won their OCAA Provincial semi-final match against the Sheridan Bruins to advance to Saturday's OCAA championship game.

 

The No. 1 nationally ranked Women's squad (11-0-1, 1st in West) defeated the Bruins (8-3-1, 3rd in West) by a dominant score of 5-1 in Ancaster. OCAA Player of the Year, Jade Kovacevic (Acton, ON), notched four goals in the victory, while Chelsea Zavitz (St. Thomas, ON) had the other tally. Fanshawe midfielder, Angelika Mihalopulos (London, ON) was the player of the game for her solid play. With the win, the Falcons have secured their spot in the CCAA National Championship from November 6-9 at Concordia University in Edmonton. Fanshawe, the reigning OCAA champions, will look to defend their OCAA title on Saturday, October 26, when they face the Seneca Sting (12-0, 1st in East) at 3pm for the provincial gold medal.

 

In the Women's quarterfinal game on Wednesday, October 23, the red and white shutout the Niagara Knights (6-3-2, 4th in West) by a score of 2-0. Kovacevic scored both goals for the victors and was named the player of the game.
