Offence Continues to Roll for No. 2 Women’s Soccer

(London, Ontario) – The No. 2 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Women's Soccer squad (5-0-1) recorded an 11-0 win over the Lambton Lions (0-6-1) on Wednesday afternoon in London. The victory extends the Falcons' OCAA unbeaten streak to 20 games, which ties the Fanshawe Soccer record for most consecutive unbeaten OCAA league and playoff games.

 

The Falcons showed their dominance early in the first half when Nicole Nielsen (London, ON) scored in the sixth minute to give the home team the lead. The OCAA's leading goal scorer, Jade Kovacevic (Action, ON), would then beat the Lambton keeper. Kovacevic would score three more in the first half, while teammate Chelsea Zavitz (St. Thomas, ON) netted goal of her own on a nice shot from outside the 18-yard box. Rookie striker Katie Nelson (London, ON) scored her first two goals as a Falcon in the first half, as the red and white held a 9-0 advantage at half time.

 

Nielsen notched her second goal of the game to open the second half. Kovacevic would score once again on a penalty kick to make the final score 11-0 for the Falcons. Fanshawe had 34 total shots in the match to Lambton's one. In the last three games, the Fanshawe squad has averaged 7.3 goals per game. Kovacevic has brought her total to 95 career goals, including 16 this season.

 

On Saturday, October 5, the Falcons will travel to the University of Toronto Mississauga (1-3-1) for a match against the Eagles.
