(London, Ontario) – The #8 Fanshawe Falcons Women's Soccer team moved to 5-0 on the season with a 3-1 win over the Mohawk Mountaineers (3-1-1) at Fanshawe Athletics annual Falcons Fest on Saturday afternoon.

The teams exchanged possession in the first thirty minutes of the match. A beautiful turn and pass by Falcons forward Nicole Nielsen (London, ON) in the 33rd minute set up Jade Kovacevic (Acton, ON), who made no mistake and put the ball in the back of the net. Kovacevic would score her second of the game in the 41st minute with a well-placed shot to the bottom right corner of the net. At the half, Fanshawe led Mohawk 2-0.

In the beginning of the second half, the Falcons held most of the possession but could not capitalize on opportunities in front of the Mountaineers net. In the 78th minute, Mohawk scored a header off a corner kick to spark some energy for the visiting team. With the Mountaineers pushing, the Falcons were able to counterattack and shut down Mohawk's hopes at a comeback. Kovacevic netted her third goal to complete the hat trick and the Falcons went on to win 3-1. The Falcons had 19 total shots in the match to the Mountaineers seven. Kovacevic now has 67 career OCAA goals and sits second in all-time scoring, only behind Cambrian's Tiffany Johnson (2014-17), who has 83.

Fanshawe's next match will be at home on Tuesday, September 25 at 5pm. The Falcons will face the St. Clair Saints (1-2-1) for the second time this season, with the first result being a 3-0 Fanshawe victory in Windsor on September 11, 2018.
