Beginning in 1987-88, the Falcons found immediate success with Carriere as head coach, winning four OCAA championships (1987-88, 1988-89, 1991-92, and 1993-94). In four of those seasons, he was named the OCAA Coach of the year, as well as CCAA Coach of the Year in 1993-94. Carriere stepped away from coaching in 1994 and was inducted in the OCAA Coaching Hall of Fame.

Carriere then returned to coaching the Falcons in 2013-14 and has coached his team to playoff appearances every year since. In 2019-20, the Falcons defended their OCAA title, giving the Fanshawe Women's Basketball program a league-high 13 OCAA gold medals. In 2018-19, Carriere was named the OCAA Coach of the Year for the fifth time. The Falcons have claimed an OCAA medal in five of the past six seasons. Carriere played for the Men's Basketball team from 1981-84. He also was a CCAA Mentor Coach for the Female Apprentice Coaching Program.
